Mental Health and Wellbeing
Why are we getting a school dog?
• Interacting with dogs can help reduce stress and anxiety and create a more relaxed and positive atmosphere
• Dogs can help provide comfort and friendship if we are feeling upset or angry
• Caring for a dog helps us to learn responsibility, empathy and the importance of caring for others
All about Robbie...
• Robbie lives with Mrs Evans. He came to live with her when he was just 8 weeks old.
• He is 9 years old. His birthday is in August
• Robbie is a cockapoo. This means he's a mix of cocker spaniel (his mum) and poodle (his dad). This gives him his apricot coloured fur, his domed head and his loving nature.
What will Robbie be doing in school?
• Robbie will be first and foremost a school pet.
• He will support emotional wellbeing for both pupils and staff
• Sometimes Robbie might come to hear you read or visit you in class
• Just like you have your break and lunch time to rest, have some food and drink, go to the toilet and have fun with your friends, Robbie will also have some rest times to do the same
• Sometimes we might play with Robbie but Mrs. Evans will always teach you to do this safely. Dogs have big, strong teeth but, if it is done properly, this is not a problem.
Robbie has learned these lessons:
• Sit (I'm good at this one, especially if I think I'm going to get some food or if I want to look out of the window!)
• Off • Come (I'm still learning this so I'll start off on my lead in school. When I've been here for a while I might be allowed to come off my lead inside)
• Stay
• Drop
• Leave it He has also learned 'paw' to shake hands and even 'high five'
